The Power of a Story

After battling a nine year addiction to pain pills and meth, Jess remembers the moment that snapped her into reality. When she was only 80 pounds, her dad looked her in the eyes and said, “I don’t want to have to bury my daughter.”

On their fifth anniversary, Jess and her husband went to detox together. That was an incredible turning point in their lives. They were sober for a year, but relapsed when they moved to Springfield.

“We weren’t in church. We had gotten away from God. We knew it, but we didn’t want to admit it.”

Then, in January 2016, Jess found Pastor John Alarid’s story on the CITYREACH NETWORK blog. Jess read the story and it opened up her eyes. She and her husband decided to get clean again. With the support of their family and church, they’ve been clean since then!

Jess describes how her family felt at home right away at CityReach Springfield.

“For the first time, I felt like I was set free. I’m very self-conscious of how I look now because of my past, but now nothing else matters. It’s just about you and God here.”
