When Jesus was crucified, he hung on a cross between two criminals. One of the criminals mocked him, but the other believed and asked Jesus to remember him when Jesus came into his kingdom. To the man who believed, Jesus said, “Today you will be with me in Paradise.”
According to Ephesians 2:8-9, “by grace you have been saved through faith. This is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works.” What did it take for the man by Jesus’ side to be forgiven and receive the promise of eternity in paradise? He simply believed.
In our CityReach churches, there is living proof of the life-changing power of Jesus in countless testimonies of radical transformation. Men and women who once experienced the pain and anguish that Christ freely took for us, have now been set free.
God has offered this grace to all of us. In the words of our Savior at the cross, “It is finished.” It is up to each of us to decide if we will believe and accept it. As we celebrate this Easter weekend, let us rejoice in knowing that ‘It is finished’ and ask ourselves: “Do we believe in the finished work of the cross?”
