As we stepped out and planted our church there were so many questions in my mind? God, how is this all going to work? What are you calling me to do? How am I going to fit into this?
Sometimes we just need to be still and listen to what God is asking us to do.
There was one specific time when I was listening for God’s voice and His heartbeat. There was a young lady that came to one of our outreaches. She sat by herself and barely talked with anyone. I felt God leading me to just stop and listen to her. I approached her and sat and talked with her for a while. She began to share how she had lost everything. She was once a wealthy businesswoman, had a great marriage and had a daughter. My heart broke for her as I sat listening to her story. She had developed a rare skin disease, her husband ended up committing adultery, and their marriage fell apart. She didn’t know where to turn or what to do next.
Over the course of several months I would pick her up for church each week. I spent hours during the week on the phone just listening to her. She kept thanking me for listening and for believing in her. I continued to speak life into her every time we talked. Our church was able to bless her and her daughter with a full Thanksgiving meal. Then as Christmas came we offered her a registration for our give-a-gift program and she was able to give her daughter Christmas gifts.
Months went by and she eventually wanted to help me in the office. I can remember her helping me make crosses out of palms for Easter. We worked for hours making these crosses together. She would sit right beside me in the services and had completely surrendered her life over to Christ.
I remember her standing beside me and for the longest time she would just stand and sing. One particular day though she raised her hands in worship and the presence of God was so strong.
